About This Course

The course "Design & Construction of Hydropower Structures" provides an in-depth exploration of hydropower projects, covering systems, components, and essential design principles. It begins with the history of hydropower, Indian projects, and site selection criteria, followed by hydrological studies, geological and geotechnical analyses, and hydropower potential assessment. Learners will study the design and construction of diversion and storage headworks, water conductor systems, tunnels, caverns, and hydromechanical equipment. The course also covers energy dissipators, galleries, surge tanks, penstocks, pressure shafts, and cross-drainage works, emphasizing hydraulic and structural design fundamentals. Additionally, it explores economic diameter selection, seepage control, geotechnical surveys, and stability assessments to ensure efficient project execution. By the end, participants will develop comprehensive skills to analyze, design, and manage hydropower projects, integrating theoretical concepts with practical applications.
